2D sketch motion tools are a powerful way to validate your mechanism designs at the very earliest phase of a concept design.  This lesson introduces the tools and shows how they can be applied. 

In traditional CAD system you generally have to have 3D geometry before testing the motion capabilities of your design.  In SOLIDWORKS Mechanical Conceptual mechanism design begins in a single sketch, where 2D sketch objects representing components and linkages are created. Using dimensions and relations you can test motion by clicking and dragging items, or by leveraging the built-in sketch motion tools.
