TREE PLANTING DRONE in SOLIDWORKS

This is not a normal drone. It is a massive drone of size 2352mm*630mm (similar to an agricultural drone size) designed to plant trees using seedpods.

Props used: 30”

Battery: 12S, 22000 mAh

Configuration: Hexacopter

Overall weight: 28Kg

Load Carrying Capacity: 10.6Kg

Thrust Ratio: 2:1

Being born and raised in a village with green forests all around, it used to hurt me inside when the trees are cut down or a forest gets caught by fire. Last year, when Amazon was burning, I was burning inside too. This was going to destroy our ecosystem, our sustainability a lot faster than we could have ever thought. People say everything is possible but we all know that a forest can be destroyed in a day but it can’t be restored in 5 years of time also.

I was devastated not being able to contribute to stopping the bushfire of Amazon and Australia but being an engineering professional, this is what I chose to do. This project is not just an ambitious project but it can really be brought into action.

We have advanced technology to a huge tree in seconds, machines to destroy forests in a day, missiles to destroy enemy hundreds of miles away, vehicles to fly miles away either in air, water, land, or space, and yet we don’t have such a technology to plant trees. Every innovation and every invention is targeting only the human comfort and prosperity of human because of the selfishness of humans. All the inventions lead to carbon footprint in one way or the other, every machine is easing the lifestyle of people but hurting the mother earth. This need has been realized by several scientists and engineers in the early ’20s and a couple of companies like Drone Seed, BiCarbon Engineering, Drenda Systems, AirSeed Technologies, etc. are working on it but to mitigate the problem and to restore our ecosystem, the need is more than what is available today. A machine available in one part of the world may not be sustainable for the other part of the world. It is better if we could design it on our own with our requirements, available materials reducing the cost and increasing the result. This need has led to the design of a massive hexacopter for planting trees in this project.

The concept was inspired by the video of a YouTuber, Mark Rober from the campaign ‘20 million trees’ with #TEAMTREES.

At this phase of design, I still have a lot of room for design improvement. I had to publish it at this phase due to time constraints but I love this project and I will be working on its improvisation and further optimization.

For now, have a look at this animation.
