Hey everyone! I am wanted to share a new design I have been working on.
It has been a few months since my last post, I have been staying very busy and have exciting news! (Which I will share very soon)
People often ask me about my design process and my creative workflow.
They usually ask: Do you sketch by hand first? What tools do you use? What is your favorite app for modeling? How long does it take you?
The answers to most of those questions are that my designs are unique and are developed using different tactics and styling. Also, I am always learning new methods and new techniques to complete my designs. This also makes Industrial Design so challenging and fun!
Unfortunately, a perfect recipe or a secret formula does not exist for creating successful parts. I always say you need to work out all the bad ideas just to get to the good ones, embrace the chaos and challenges of design, often the journey is what makes the best finished product.
I believe we all need to constantly reinvent ourselves and continue push ourselves to become better at our craft.
For this episode I decided to focus my attention on an everyday item. Something that everyone can relate with.
This project is called the Snap-Back wallet. It is a simple concept that is a great example of my workflow journey. I actually started this project earlier this summer. However, I really wanted to finish it using aircraft grade aluminum created on my brand new CNC machine.
The overall design shape was inspired by an ultra-smooth river rock. I have often turned to nature for my design inspiration. Check out the video below
