The SOLIDWORKS® team is excited to announce the upcoming release of our browser-based and cloud-connected SOLIDWORKS roles. The R2023x FD01 release, which came out Saturday, February 11th, 2023, features significant enhancements helping customers to simplify workflows and improve productivity.

This new release brings significant improvements to the SOLIDWORKS roles in the 3DEXPERIENCE® Works portfolio. Below is just a small selection of the most notable enhancements.

SOLIDWORKS Browser-based Roles

3D Creator

• 3D Creator: Organize data right from the start with the ability to add components to a bookmark when you create a new component. Create detailed virtual twin assemblies with connections between components that replicate real-world physics. Save time navigating the user interface with on-demand access to the OK/Cancel command window. Move data seamlessly between browser-based roles and assemblies with the ability to drag and drop components from any widget into 3D Creator. Instantly identify more locations to add fasteners to an assembly with improvements to Mate Helper.
• 3D Sculptor: Speed up the selection of subdivision entities by eliminating the need to constantly reset selection filters. Now the selection filter will automatically reset or you can pin a select filter to make it persistent. Improve subdivision geometry control and smoothness with the ability to control the twist of aligned geometry. Create a smooth sub-division mesh when aligning cage points with the ability to distribute vertices equally rather than maintaining the pre-existing distribution between points.
• 3D SheetMetal Creator: Streamline your design process with selection-based context menus for sketches and feature geometries. Easily map sketches, markings, and engravings on flat patterns with the new Point or Curve Mapping feature. Communicate the flat pattern and mapped geometries using new DXF functionality.
• 3D Structure Creator: Speed up structure design and reduce repetitive member creation with the ability to create linear and circular patterns.
• 3D Mold Creator: Draft your plastic or cast part correctly even when the parting line you are drafting from is non-planar. Automatically draft the core and cavity during a mold tooling split operation using the new parting line draft.
• Manufacturing Definition Creator: Organize annotation with ease using new annotation plane snapping and alignment. Rapidly change and update dimension precision with new system options. Easily share drawings with industry-supported DWG and DXF output.

3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Premium

• 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Premium, Professional, and Standard: Streamline your design to manufacturing workflow and guarantee the accuracy of displaying balloon numbers from a SOLIDWORKS drawing in downstream applications. Automatically track and update the history of revisions of a SOLIDWORKS drawing when a new revision is made on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Be more productive while saving your SOLIDWORKS data to the platform with asynchronous save. Improve the efficiency of your product design process through more flexible reloading of components from the server.
• 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Professional and Premium, Collaborative Designer for DraftSight: Improve your onboarding experience with the ability to receive ongoing guidance through a dedicated dashboard that contains all the relevant resources in one place.
• 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical (new role): Create, edit, and manage legacy and newly created mechanical DWG files. Take advantage of all the features included in 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Premium plus advanced features that enable you to update mechanical entities in DWG format. Automate the creation of accurate bill of materials (BOM) and parts lists by getting editable access to part references (e.g. supplier, specifications). Make it simple to complete assembly instructions with ballooning features that automatically read the BOM and part reference information.
• 3D Motion Creator: Gain a deeper understanding of the rigid body motion behavior with 3D visualization of applied loads and driver velocities in preview and result animation. Set up your motion simulation model in an efficient way by directly supporting the most common 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS desktop Mates. Perform more reliable mechanism simulations including 3D contact with improved solver robustness. Analyze contact in your models by reviewing contact pressure occurring in 2D Plots.
• Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS: Streamline your design to manufacturing workflow and guarantee the accuracy of displaying balloon numbers from a SOLIDWORKS drawing in downstream applications. Be more productive while saving your SOLIDWORKS data to the platform with asynchronous save. Improve the efficiency of your product design process through more flexible reloading of components from the server. Reduce storage costs and ensure a single source of truth by avoiding duplicates when uploading your existing SOLIDWORKS drawings into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
