Abstract:
SIMULIA Abaqus provides results in stresses and strains. The user is responsible for the correct interpretation and evaluation of the results. In particular, the evaluation of surface properties, manufacturing influences or local stress-peaks which can imply plasticizing or potential damage requires more advanced calculations for strength verification and durability prediction.
The FKM guideline provides a guided process for strength verification based on the FE result. The
calculation is based on many years of experience and tests which can be transferred to the component of interest.
The entire procedure is illustrated using the example of a clamping hub of a coupling from the
manufacturer R+W Antriebselemente GmbH. The challenge is making the correct assumptions and
adjusting the input parameters accordingly. In the example, this is demonstrated using the special case of the plastic spot.
