I am pleased to invite you to watch our presentation that I held at the 5th Wind & Drivetrain Conference on April 6, 2022.
My name is @MS, and my passion for simulation technology started already while doing my Ph.D. in Plasma Technology. After changing my career from the academic to the industrial sector, joining a simulation group at Infineon/Quimoda group deepened my knowledge of CAE and simulation methodologies. Joining the SIMPACK AG in 2011, I now work as a Flexible Multibody System Simulation Senior Manager at Dassault Systèmes, becoming one of the main actors in the development of new methodologies for simulating flexible bodies for all different kinds of use cases, like Nonlinear SIMBEAM, FlexTrack, Nonlinear Flexible, and co-simulation with FE.
I contributed to this project as part of a team that received great support from @MC from the RWTH Aachen, Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD). Martin's primary focus is on the MBS simulation analysis of gearless wind turbines' overall dynamics and acoustics. He started as a Research Assistant at the Chair for Wind Power Drives at the RWTH Aachen and became 2020 the Team Lead of the Plant Design at the Chair for Wind Power Drives group.
Abstract of the presentation:
The trend toward increasing the power output of modern wind turbines leads to higher towers and longer rotor blades, resulting in more flexible structures. As these components increase in size, nonlinear structural behavior becomes increasingly important. Therefore, accurate multi-body simulation models that consider nonlinear effects are needed.
This presentation presents the workflow and usage of new Simpack functionality for nonlinear model order reduction. It shows that nonlinear flexible bodies in Simpack agree well with comparative calculations in finite element software. With an exemplary rotor blade model, several test scenarios are investigated for both static and dynamic load cases and for complete system simulations.
