Top 5 Best Practices for March 2024

As we are nearing the end of Q1, it’s a great time to relook at the Top 5 SIMULIA Best Practices for March 2024.

This list contains the most viewed and downloaded SIMULIA Best Practices for March 2024 that have been published in Knowledge Base.

1. Random Vibration Simulation with Abaqus

Concepts associated with performing random vibration simulations are presented in terms of the random response procedure available within the Abaqus finite element simulation software. The paper begins with some general background information on the topic of random vibration. The equations that form the basis for a random response simulation are then presented in matrix notation. The concepts of “correlated” and “uncorrelated” random excitations are discussed and illustrated. The random response procedure is demonstrated by solving a series of simple beam problems.

This Best Practices document is applicable for all releases from Abaqus 2018 to Abaqus 2023.

Target Audience: Engineers and Analysts responsible for simulating noise and vibration in mechanical systems

2. Flexible Multibody Simulation

SIMULIA Simpack is a Multibody Simulation (MBS) software for dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. Multibody Simulation allows an analyst to study the kinematic behavior of a system or to identify forces acting between two components at a much lower computational cost than a Finite Element Analysis.

Flexible Multibody Simulation is an elegant approach that combines the benefits of the traditional MBS approach with the high fidelity provided by the Finite Element method.

This document provides an overview of model reduction techniques, preparation of FE model, types of couplings, substructure generation steps, quality check of FBI files, and the best solver settings suitable for Flexible Multibody Simulation.

Target Audience: Analysts, Consultants and Tech Support.

3. HPC Integration of Abaqus and 3DEXPERIENCE with SLURM

This Best Practices document covers all the prerequisites required to successfully integrate the Abaqus 2022 Established Product solvers and 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x 3DOrchestrate environment with the ‘Simple Linux Utility for Resource Manager’ (SLURM).

This Best Practices document is applicable for all releases from 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x onwards

Target Audience: Site IT, Software Architects, HPC Administrators, Tech Support members, Consultant and End Users.

4. Access Advanced Abaqus Features Using 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x SIMULIA Apps

This Best Practices document demonstrates the use of advanced Abaqus features authored by a Mechanical Analyst using the External Solve feature of the Physics Simulation app.

The Physics Simulation is exported as an Abaqus Input file and is updated interactively with additional Abaqus keywords using a simulation process authored in the simulation templates in the Process Composer app. The updated Abaqus Input file is executed using the Compute Orchestration Service. The results are imported back into the 3DEXPERIENCE Physics Results app for post-processing.

Target Audience: Design Engineers, Mechanical Analysts, CFD Analysts, Methods Developers, and so on.

5. Connections Modeling Using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

Connections or joints are used to assemble various engineering structures. Engineers face challenges in conducting the finite element analysis of assemblies involving connections. The 3DEXPERIENCE Platform provides a wide range of connection tools that can be used to model complex real life scenarios.

Connection tools are the advanced tools provided in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that join two or more supports with a defined behavior to model/mimic the real life scenarios. This Best Practices document gives an overview of how the connection tools available in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform model the real-life scenario using the handler node, connector element, and connectors.

Target Audience: Tech Support, Finite Element Analyst, Mechanical Engineers.
