Top 5 Best Practices for August 2024

As we are recently started Q3, it’s a great time to relook at the Top 5 SIMULIA Best Practices for August 2024.

This list contains the most viewed and downloaded SIMULIA Best Practices for August 2024 that have been published in Knowledge Base.

1. HPC Integration of Abaqus and 3DEXPERIENCE with SLURM

This Best Practices document covers all the prerequisites required to successfully integrate the Abaqus 2022 Established Product solvers and 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x 3DOrchestrate environment with the ‘Simple Linux Utility for Resource Manager’ (SLURM).

This Best Practices document is applicable for all releases from 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x onwards

Target Audience: Site IT, Software Architects, HPC Administrators, Tech Support members, Consultant and End Users.

2. Random Vibration Simulation with Abaqus

Concepts associated with performing random vibration simulations are presented in terms of the random response procedure available within the Abaqus finite element simulation software. The paper begins with some general background information on the topic of random vibration. The equations that form the basis for a random response simulation are then presented in matrix notation. The concepts of “correlated” and “uncorrelated” random excitations are discussed and illustrated. The random response procedure is demonstrated by solving a series of simple beam problems.

This Best Practices document is applicable for all releases from Abaqus 2018 to Abaqus 2023.

Target Audience: Engineers and Analysts responsible for simulating noise and vibration in mechanical systems

3. Fluids Meshing in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

Meshing a fluid domain involves discretization of the domain into discrete cells. Various meshing techniques are used to discretize a complex model with good quality mesh, which enables the solver to solve the problem without convergence issues.

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform provides a lot of capabilities that help to mesh different fluid scenario domains, for example from simple to complex. There are certain best practices that the user needs to follow when handling fluid domain meshing. This document mainly focuses on these best practices. The SIMULIA Fluid Model Creation app is mainly used for fluid domain definition and domain mesh creation.

Target Audience: Simulation Analyst and Fluid Simulation Engineer.

4. Flexible Multibody Simulation

SIMULIA Simpack is a Multibody Simulation (MBS) software for dynamic analysis of mechanical systems. Multibody Simulation allows an analyst to study the kinematic behavior of a system or to identify forces acting between two components at a much lower computational cost than a Finite Element Analysis.

Flexible Multibody Simulation is an elegant approach that combines the benefits of the traditional MBS approach with the high fidelity provided by the Finite Element method.

This document provides an overview of model reduction techniques, preparation of FE model, types of couplings, substructure generation steps, quality check of FBI files, and the best solver settings suitable for Flexible Multibody Simulation.

Target Audience: Analysts, Consultants and Tech Support.

5. Discover, Explore and Generate Designs Using the Design Exploration App

Design Exploration applications (apps) help the Simulation Analyst to explore multiple alternatives across a range of operating scenarios that enables optimal design selection using powerful decision-making tools. Parametric Design Study Essentials and Parametric Design Study applications enable the Simulation Analyst to define and perform studies that explore alternative designs using parametric optimization methods.

The Simulation Analyst builds these studies using the applications packaged with the Structural Generative Engineer (OPZ) role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This best practice document focuses on and illustrates the various design exploration studies available in the Design Exploration application.

Target Audience: Simulation Analysts.
