RUM2021 RUM2021-EuroMed Elettronica Electomagnetics StudioSuite CustomerPresentation
During the EuroMed RUM 2021, Domenico GAETANO presented "The Design of a Multi-Sensing Mast Antenna for RESM Application".
In his presentation, Domenico discussed the evaluation of installed array performance and its fundamental aspect in new generations of electronic defense systems. Once the single radiating element and the antenna array have been designed, the installation on the platform has to be considered. It produces perturbations on the antenna radiated fields, modifying the array pattern. Therefore the array location and properties have to be carefully controlled to avoid shadowing effects and maximize the field of view. The full array design includes the radome and polarizer effects, and a wide scanning angle can be achieved using metasurfaces. The performance is promising in terms of radiation coefficient, realized gain, and total efficiency.
CST Microwave Studio allows realizing an accurate design starting from the unit cell evaluation to the finite array and pattern degradation. Once the antenna model has been designed, it is possible to evaluate installed performances for different platform positions in a unique simulation environment, allowing very high flexibility.
Domenica Gaetano received his Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering (with an internship in Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, and in Tyndall National Institute, Ireland) in July 2009 from the University of Calabria, Italy, and his Ph.D. degree in Antenna Engineering from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin, Ireland in 2014.
Since 2014 he has been working as an Antenna Engineer in ELT Elettronica, where he actually covers the position of Antenna Focal Point. His main research interests include antennas and arrays for Electronic warfare applications and RCS Minimization.
