PDF Slides:
Abstract:
FSI in liquid food & beverage packaging has a relevant impact in the design of forming processes. In tube-filled technology, package shaping happens under variable pressure provided by the internal product, due to motion profiles and counter-pressure systems. Numerical simulations are carried out with Simulia Abaqus, by modeling the fluid as a combination of additional inertia and variable internal pressure. FSI techniques have been scouted to solve the complete coupled problem. Within the realm of Simulia products, Xflow was tested, and now the focus is on SPH and CEL techniques. The FSI problem is relevant also for semi-finished package transportation. Abrupt velocity variations and not-optimized geometries can lead to sloshing effects and package rebounds, hindering efficiency and triggering defects on the final shape. An overview of the different models and techniques is presented, to discuss the strengths and limitations of the current capabilities.
About the Speakers:
Andrea Giampieri graduated at Politecnico of Milan, receiving a Ph.D. in Structural, Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering with a thesis on "Modeling Interface Elements between Shells". Andrea collaborated to the implementation of the nonlinear shell model in the commercial solver Xfinest and with MOX department in Milan for the modeling of Wind-Sail Interaction.
In 2010, Andrea joined Tetra Pak as a Development Engineer, focusing on the numerical modeling of complex packaging material-machine-product interactions. He now works in the role of a Technology Specialist within the Simulation Team in Modena.
Andrea is valued as member of the SIMULIA Champions program, which he joined in 2021.
