TECHNIA | Advanced Capabilities of the 3DEXPERIENCE Material Calibration Tool | EuroCentral RUM 2025

Abstract

The Material Calibration app on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is one of the most desired tools in many industries. Tedious and limited approaches to material calibration involving Abaqus/CAE, spreadsheets, and scripts, or even Isight can be easily replaced by this app. Its power lies not only in its user-friendly interface but also in its advanced capabilities, which will be the main subject of this presentation. In addition to a general introduction to Material Calibration app, this paper will focus on a wide range of complex material models that can be calibrated this way, calibration based on finite element models, and the use of subroutines.

Presenter Bio

Jakub Michalski has been working as a Simulation Expert at TECHNIA Poland for over six years. His role encompasses conducting training sessions, executing simulation projects, and providing technical support for Abaqus and other SIMULIA tools, including the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. His primary area of expertise lies in solid mechanics, but his experience also extends to fatigue analysis, optimization, and computational fluid dynamics. v Jakub holds an MSE in biomedical engineering and pursued doctoral studies at Poznan University of Technology, where he earned his PhD in mechanical engineering in 2023. He is a passionate advocate for finite element analysis (FEA) tools, actively promoting their application in engineering and research. As part of this effort, he regularly authors technical articles on simulation methodologies, often presenting them as practical guides for users. Additionally, he authored several research papers, with a focus on the mechanics of metamaterials and advanced numerical simulations.

This paper was prepared in collaboration with Tomasz Jankowlak, who is both a colleague at TECHNIA Poland and an associate professor at Poznan University of Technology. Tomasz specializes in materials engineering and has extensive experience in physical testing, material calibration, and Abaqus simulations, particularly in explicit dynamics. Over the years, he has developed multiple user-defined material models and has co-authored numerous research publications. His expertise in complex material behavior and high-strain-rate phenomena has contributed significantly to preparing advanced calibration examples in Material Calibration app for this paper.
