The Abaqus Technology Brief titled "Abdominal Aorta Blood Flow Analysis with Abaqus/CFD" describes how Abaqus/CFD can be used to simulate complex blood flow in an abdominal aorta and its branches.  The progression of disease in arteries is affected by local blood flow characteristics. Insight into how such mechanical factors affect arterial health can be gained by employing computational fluid dynamics simulation. With this approach, accurate and detailed quantitative data on hemodynamic factors can be obtained.

The following video is a complement to the published Technology Brief.  This video includes:

  • Introduction (0:00-1:45)
  • Describing blood properties (1:45-4:15)
  • Specialized velocity boundary conditions defined using user subroutines (4:15-5:16)
  • Requesting surface output in Abaqus/CFD (5:16-7:19)
  • Verifying global mass balance (7:19-10:40)

This video was recorded using Abaqus 6.12
