Study of Electrical Breakdown of Rock using SIMULIA CST



Electrical disintegration of rocks is a method that uses high-voltage electrical discharge to break down rocks into smaller fragments or dust. It's a precise, low-vibration, and relatively safe alternative to traditional mechanical methods like drilling or blasting.


In this simulation a concrete rock was studied under the influence of nano second High Voltage Generator. The simulation has been done in 3d Electromagnetic software (SIMULIA CST Studio) using Field Circuit Co Simulation approach. The details of key parameters are:

Pulsed Power Generator: 12 Stage Marx, 300 KV, 30ns
Rock: Concrete, 40 years old (Breaks when Electric Field exceeds 10 KV/mm).
