Dear SIMULIA users,

A SIMULIA User Meeting Conference (SUMC) was organized on February 2nd 2017 in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

This event has been organized by Dassault Systèmes (DS) and The Petroleum Institute (PI), one of our biggest Academic customers in the Middle East. Conference took place in PI Research Center.

About 75 people registered online, and around 50 attended.

Among them, some of famous majors in Oil&Gas Upstream like ExxonMobil, Total, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company), and some EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) like Emirates Steel, NPCC (National Petroleum construction Company), Future Pipe Industries. Plus Academics from different Universities (UAE University, Masdar Institute,…)

For the very first time in the region, our users had the opportunity to present their activities with SIMULIA products.

The Petroleum Institute, through Dr Fahad Almaskari, Dr Imad Barsoum and Dr Firas Jarrar, presented very interesting topics such as “Pipe-Flange Connection based on cold-work process” or “Numerical Simulation of Superplastic Forming of lightweight Sheet components”.

We had an excellent user presentation from Eng Badr, NPCC, on “Importance of Early Design Assessment of Pipeline Lateral Buckling”. Finally, Ms Neha Arieckal, from University of UAE presented “Buckling of Rectangular Hollow Sections under Transverse Loading “.

From SIMULIA side, we had open introduction from Edouard Lété. Then Jean-Daniel Lecuyer  talked about “Fault reactivation, borehole stability and other geomechanics workflows” followed by a presentation on “Piping stress analysis and Fitness For Service”. I closed the day with a presentation on “Additive Manufacturing – From Concept to Production”.

During a year, we developed a strong relationship with The Petroleum Institute. Hosting this successful event at their premise wasn’t a difficult task at all.

Our aim is to develop users community locally in the Middle East, and in the UAE. Every SIMULIA users in the region should be concerned by this community.
