More glamorous than the Oscars - the Red Carpet was rolled out at Sheffield and Glasgow for this year's Academic Forums!
University of Sheffield – 11th February 2015
We started with this year’s Northern Forum on the 11th February. Held in the brand new Insigneo Institute (http://insigneo.org/) building at the University of Sheffield.
Around 40 Academic attendees from three different local Universities participated in this event. The theme for the morning session was SIMULIA and optimisation - split into two presentations. Firstly I gave my “The Power of the Portfolio” presentation, then Arjun Rajkumar (from the UK CSE) took the stage and presented his “Optimisation Methods – Isight” presentation.
After lunch we were treated to 4 excellent academic presentations highlighting the use of Abaqus in various areas of Research being undertaken at both the Universities of Sheffield and Bradford:-

Following the Academic presentations Arjun and I were subjected to a lively Q&A session!
University of Glasgow – 18th February 2015
Then the Academic Forum roadshow moved further North into Scotland and the University of Glasgow for the Scottish Forum on the 18th February 2015.
This event was also well attended with 25 students, Researchers and Staff present from Universities of Glasgow and Dundee and also Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh. I was joined at this Forum by Arjun Rajkumar and Max Leadley-Brown from the UK CSE. Again we were very fortunate to have a splendid location in the newly refurbished Seminar Rooms in the James Watt South Building.
In the morning session DS staff presented; again choosing to use the theme of Optimisation Methods. . Firstly I gave my “The Power of the Portfolio” presentation, then Arjun took the stage and presented his “Optimisation Methods – Isight” presentation.
After lunch we had a packed afternoon session with 4 innovative presentations from both Glasgow and Heriot Watt Universities, interestingly all from the Life Sciences Domain:-
As at Sheffield the previous week the standard of presentations was extremely high and made for a stimulating afternoon.
