SIMULIA Structures eNews | September '24

Artificial intelligence and machine learning as a topic is unavoidable in modern industry. It promises to bring transformation, including within the field of structures simulation. This month's newsletter highlights two particular benefits of AI in simulation. One is the potential of trained machine learning models to accelerate welding simulation—enabling fast, interactive optimization of weld parameters while providing reliable results. The other is in material model selection—with hundreds of material models to choose from, AI can select the right model for the application and calibrate it, allowing the user to build accurate simulation models faster.

AI and ML are enabled by the power of cloud computing, and if you are interested in running structural simulations on the Cloud, join us on October 17 for a live tech talk demonstrating 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud Simulation for Structures.

We also have several interviews this month. Interviewees include Alison McMillan, Professor in Aerospace Technology at Wrexham University, who talks about fretting damage simulation, and the team at 4RealSim, who are part of the SimInSitu project to develop sophisticated in-silico methods to predict the short- and long-term behavior of in-situ tissue-engineered heart valves (TEHV).

Finally, we have several blog posts and talks focused on getting the most out of Abaqus and solving common issues. On our blog, we have an article about debugging Abaqus/Standard models to solve convergence issues, as well as a how-to on using the Calibration App for a hyperelastic-plastic (FeFp) material model. Meanwhile, we also have a Tech Talk on using output filtering in Abaqus/Explicit, explaining how to get the best results from your filters.
