Simulation of AWD Performance with Multibody Chassis Model and Hardware in the Loop System (HILS)

Computer controls are expanding into every major vehicle system. Incorporating Simulation tools to validate products virtually in a quick and effective way is of utmost importance and help to maintain costs and development schedules.

Honda speaks about the opportunity and challenge to couple High-Fidelity simulation tools, e.g. Simpack with computer controls hardware in order to create a new workspace for control-prototyping.

Honda’s goals of activities, such as

  • Constructing a Real-Time Simpack model that has the correct interfaces to the powertrain models and AWD HILS bench and represents the performance of the base chassis
  • Constructing a HILS bench in order to capture the actual AWD ECU control and servo-hydraulic actuator response
  • Constructing a co-simulation environment in order to integrate the Simpack model and HILS bench
  • Demonstrating the ability of the co-simulation model to respond to control algorithm changes

with the utilization of Simpack for virtual validations, will be demonstrated in this presentation.
