Regional User Meetings - What did you miss?

What do Honda, 3M, the London Underground, and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center have in common?

They all presented and attended a 2013 SIMULIA Regional User Meeting (RUM). WAIT! I know what you're thinking... "not another event recap - boring!" I assure you this will be much better than that.

Each year we tend to write a blog post in the SLC that summarizes each individual RUM. We tell you how we've had record attendance, fantastic venues, incredible presentations, and exciting announcements. We thank you for attending and encourage you to consider registering if you have not already done so.  I can tell you that this was indeed the case for our September RUMs held in the UK, East, Central and Erie regions, but I'd like to take this opportunity to highlight technical aspects and applications that truly made each RUM unique.

United Kingdom - Technical Highlights

  • Recent evolution of contact developments and best practice techniques
  • Geo-technical analyses of the intricate excavations in and around the London Underground system
  • A co-simulation case study illustration of the importance of completing the design cycle when using analysis
  • Realistic human simulation of the spine, illustrating material calibration and simulation methods development
  • Download the Conference Proceedings >>

East - Technical Highlights

The Pre-RUM Workshop Seminar allowed customers to tackle real-life contact and convergence problems while being guided by SIMULIA experts, Ronit Kar-Gupta and Dave Woyak. This valuable workshop delivered principles that can be applied to the broader category of contact related convergence problems. The Meet & Greet at the end of the day provided a perfect opportunity to meet and network with fellow colleagues and partners.

  • Michael Jandron of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center presented on Abaqus’s capability to capture real-life physics experiences exhibiting the value and strength of the multiphysics tool.
  • Dr. Kuangcheng Wu of Newport News Shipbuilding demonstrated the efficiency of adding GPU in significantly improving run times.

Central - Technical Highlights

  • Jennifer Trice showcased the diverse usage of Isight @ 3M. She highlighted the use of Isight “out-of-the-box” capabilities such as material model calibration in their workflows as well benefits of integrating & automating their in-house codes within Isight.
  • Dan Gross of Honda R&D Americas shared their experience on using Abaqus/Explicit for conducting automobile suspension rigidity analysis, and how they rely on Abaqus to ensure durability and reliability of Honda vehicles.
  • SIMULIA Advanced Seminars with topics such as: "Explore the unexplored with Isight: What have you been missing?", "Flow Simulation Using the 3D Experience Platform", "The Value of HPC and the Test Drive System" and more...

Erie - Technical Highlights

  • Phillip Prueter of the Equity Engineering Group explained how to use explicit FEA to simulate blast loading on hazardous chemical storage tanks.
  • Live product demos and a sneak preview of what's to come!
