Power of SIMULIA Portfolio 5: Using Checklists for Building Robust Abaqus Models

Imagine the following scenario:  it's 2 PM on a Friday, and your manager just informed you that there is a problem with one of your company's products.  He wants you to build a finite element model in Abaqus and evaluate a potential solution.  You have to scramble to create a model and have it run on your cluster over the weekend.  The product is complex, and the analysis will exhibit significant non-linearity.  How do you--under significant pressure--quickly create a robust model with a high level of confidence that you'll have accurate results waiting for you on Monday morning?  Using a checklist may be the answer to that question.

Abaqus models continually become larger and more complex, but larger and more complex models are more prone to modeling errors, which lead to difficulty in getting a converged and accurate solution. This e-seminar will highlight the use of analysis checklists to systematically build more robust Abaqus models.  Tips and techniques for debugging models that don’t converge will also be discussed.

Watch the eSeminar video below to:

  • Learn techniques to build large robust models to provide accurate results while still being computationally efficient:
    • Scoping calculations with simplified models
    • Pre-analysis techniques to prevent non-convergence
    • Robust contact modeling
    • Appropriate uses of stabilization techniques
