Abstract
Polimi Motorcycle Factory is the Motostudent team from Politecnico di Milano.
It brings together more than 100 students who share the same goal: to innovate and push performance to the limit.
Electric motorbikes have been a key area of development for the past few years.
Our latest electric prototype has been meticulously designed around a custom energy storage system utilizing high-capacity pouch cells. This system is engineered to feed the brand-new standard electric motor introduced by the MotoStudent competition.
However, a critical engineering challenge emerged during the powertrain optimization phase: the supplied motor is strictly sealed and cannot be physically opened for internal inspection or measurement.
To overcome this limitation and fully characterize the motor's capabilities, the team employed CST Studio Suite to perform a comprehensive reverse-engineering of its electromagnetic architecture.
Because direct physical measurement of the stator and rotor internals was impossible, the simulation parameters and baseline models were developed by benchmarking against a commercially available electric motor with a similar design.
This comparative analysis allowed the team to build a highly accurate digital twin to evaluate magnetic flux distribution, efficiency maps, and overall electromagnetic performance.

Luca Bendazzoli combines an early interest in motorcycles with a specialized academic background in engineering. He earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Automation Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.
Luca's studies provided a strong foundation in control systems, dynamic modeling, and signal processing, which he actively applies to vehicle dynamics and motorsport engineering.
Luca currently serves as the Technical Director of the PoliMi Motorcycle Factory (PMF), the university's MotoStudent team. In this capacity, he oversees the engineering departments and coordinates the development of both internal combustion and electric racing prototypes.
Parallel to his role in PMF, Luca is a PhD student within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, focusing on Electric Powertrains for Motorsport. His research centers on the modeling, optimization, and experimental validation of high-performance electric powertrain applications.
Luca work aims to provide robust, data-driven solutions that translate theoretical research into functional, track-ready applications for the next generation of electric racing vehicles.
