Sherlock Automated Design Analysis™ software, from DfR Solutions, bridges the gap between electronic CAD and mechanical CAE, seamlessly interfacing with Abaqus FEA tools. Only Sherlock functions as a pre- and post- processor for your existing FEA analysis. This capability accelerates your FEA activity and improves your modeling analysis results. Sherlock performs functions not possible with FEA tools alone.
In pre-processing, Sherlock creates a fully meshed 3D model of the electronic assembles that are in the system from the ECAD data. It ties sub-assemblies to a motherboard if you have edge connectors and/or mezzanine cards. And it seamlessly imports the 3D, meshed model into your FEA tool ready for analysis. All this is done in hours not days.
In FEA Analysis, the 3D model is inserted into the chassis, connected to the cables, potting added, etc. Then the FEA is completed in Abaqus, providing the best FEA results.
As a post-processor, the PCBA FEA is exported back into Sherlock. Sherlock then runs the lifetime prediction analysis based the FEA results and includes Thermal Cycling damage in minutes. This Sherlock – Abaqus integration results in quicker and more accurate lifetime prediction results for the PCBA.
