On Demand | Design and Optimization of a Flow Splitter with Generative Design and with Parametric Optimization

Abstract

Flow splits in pipes constitute an engineering problem common across many industries. CFD can play an important role in evaluating potential designs and enable engineers to make a physics-based design decision.

Using design and simulation tools in 3DEXPERIENCE, designers can create and validate parts digitally, maximizing product performance from the start and thus minimizing development costs.

Highlights:

  • Flow-Driven Generative Design (GDF) enables designers to create a functional part, simulate it and extract a better topology to minimize pressure drop
  • Structural Engineer role (SMU) enables the designer to test the part designed by the fluids designer in the same environment with strong collaborative features of 3DEXPERIENCE
  • SIMULIA Fluid Dynamics Engineer role (FMK) allows more complex modelling and confirmation of design improvement. SIMULIA Optimization Engineer role (MDO) enables automation of design and simulation processes
  • SIMULIA PowerFLOW, high-fidelity LBM CFD, was used to confirm the performance improvement offered by GDF
