Abaqus 6.13

Abaqus Unified FEA is the leading nonlinear FEA and advanced multiphysics simulation product suite from 3DS SIMULIA, the Dassault Systèmes brand for Realistic Simulation, that offers powerful and complete solutions for both routine and sophisticated engineering problems covering a vast spectrum of industrial applications.

Highlights:

  • Multiphysics:
    • Discrete element method (DEM): 
      A new particle method allows you to perform an analysis using the discrete element method (DEM). This method provides a versatile tool for modeling particulate material behavior in LS, EPU, CPG-R, NR, and other industries and is well-suited for particle mixing applications.
    • Nonlinear Viscoelasticity: Improved matches with experimental data are now possible using nonlinear viscoelasticity based on the parallel network approach applicable to LS, CPG-R, and TM industries.
    • Co-simulation between Electromagnetic and Thermal or Stress Analysis procedures:  Direct coupling between an electromagnetic and a thermal or a stress analysis procedure is now supported through the co-simulation capability. This capability allows simulation of problems such as induction heating where the Joule heat output from an electromagnetic analysis drives a thermal analysis, while the temperature output from the thermal analysis affects the electromagnetic fields through temperature-dependent material properties. Drives application in LS and HT industries.
    • Steady-state analysis:  Steady-state flow problems can now be solved directly, eliminating the need to approximate steadystate conditions using a long-duration transient flow simulation.  This enhancement substantially improves overall computational performance in common stead-state CFD simulations and is applicable in all industries.
  • Modeling & Meshing:
    • Hybrid Modeling: Additional modeling flexibility for geometry, native, and orphan meshes to co-exist in the same space.
    • Visualization of gravity waves in Abaqus/Aqua:  You can now visualize and verify the behavior of the water surface under gravity waves in Abaqus/Aqua for EPU and IE industries.
    • Node Dragging: Nodes can be repositioned with a new “dragging” feature.  
    • Abaqus/Viewer: extended to visualize preprocessing modeling entities, such as interactions, predefined fields, loads, and more. 
  • Performance and Selected Functionality:
    • Substructure generation using the AMS eigensolver:  A new innovative algorithm generating a substructure using the AMS eigensolver is available that significantly improves the performance of a substructure generation procedure of particular importance to TM industry simulation.
    • VCCT Enhancement: now allows the delamination of composite structures to be modeled much more quickly for AD industry.
    • Contact modeling for beams and shells:  Beam-to-surface and beam-to-beam contact can now be modeled with general contact in Abaqus/Standard with particular application in EPU, IE, and LS industries.
    • Adaptive Mesh Refinement for CEL: automatically refines the mesh in models in which large deformation exists.
    • Direct Sparse Solver using Multiple GPGPUs: Support for multiple GPUs in the direct sparse solver provides faster execution on computers with multiple GPU cards.

Isight 5.8

Isight is the market-leading open desktop solution for simulation process automation and design exploration from 3DS SIMULIA.

Isight provides designers, engineers, and researchers with an open system for integrating design and simulation models—created with various CAD, CAE and other software applications—to automate the execution of hundreds or thousands of simulations. Isight allows users to save time and improve their products by optimizing them against performance or cost metrics through statistical methods such as Design of Experiments (DOE) or Design for Six Sigma.

Isight 5.8 highlights:

  • Model Building:
    • File Sets: new and improved way of defining dynamic arrays of input and output files allows an array of files to be configured by defining a file location and file matching pattern
    • Jobid Substitution Keyword Support: A new {jobid} keyword is now available which resolves to the current Isight jobid.
    • User Substitution Keyword Support: Keyword {user} substitution resolves to the name of the user who submitted the job in Isight standalone mode
  • Component Enhancements:
    • CATIA V5 Component: Added support for the Isight parameterization of composite ply and core directions and the number of ply layers in a composite laminate
    • ANSYS Workbench Component: enhanced to support geometry associativity feature
  • Runtime Gateway Visuals:
    • Correlation Table: displays a heat map of correlation values between selected input and output parameters.
    • History Table Mix/Max Bars: Grey min/max bars that adjust real-time are added to History Table represent parameter value as a fraction of the range of values in that column. 
    • Array Graph Enhancements: now supports Array Graphs using slices of two different arrays.  For example, given “displacement versus time” and “force versus time” data, the user can now easily graph “force versus displacement”.  
  • License Usage:
    • License Usage Reporting Tool: Reads data from Dassault Systemes license server (DSLS) log file or the FLEXnet debug log file and customizes the report according to user choices

SEE 5.8

The SIMULIA Execution Engine (SEE) extends the power of simulation to the enterprise by enabling users to distribute and parallelize the execution of simulations and Isight simulation process flows across available compute resources, and share Isight simulation process flows and results. SEE can be utilized as part of a SIMULIA Simulation Lifecycle Management deployment, or can be accessed directly from Isight or a customizable web user interface.

SEE 5.8 highlight:

  • Infrastructure:
    • Affinity Check: users can now determine whether to continue or terminate a job at startup time if a required affinity is missing.
    • Exclusive Execution: Components in a Simflow can be marked for exclusive execution meaning that any Station running a workitem for an exclusive component will run no other activity workitem until the exclusive workitem is done.
