I can't pipe down about this new Tech Brief!
Pipes are an integral part of the everyday happenings in many businesses across an array of industries. It is important to accurately determine the integrity of the piping system in order to reduce the possibility of failures. The Abaqus Welding Interface or AWI is an extension of Abaqus/CAE that is well-suited to help predict welding residual stresses during the design process of pipe joints. This translates into cost advantages by saving on prototyping and experiments while also reducing the chance of costly in-service failures. Check out the full tech brief (attached) to learn how AWI is used to model multi-pass welding of an SUS304 stainless steel pipe joint. In it we will show how the AWI analysis methodology provides reasonably accurate predictions of the resulting temperature history and residual stresses, with significant time savings in the construction of complex 3-D weld models.
