Abstract
The talk will discuss the design, validation and simulation of anechoic chambers for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) evaluation. It will begin by covering EMC standards and how they define what type of chamber is required. It will then go on to discuss how, with the support of electromagnetic (EM) simulation, these chambers are designed to be validated against the standards. The validation of EMC chamber is an essential process required to guarantee measurement accuracy and international compliance by shielding external interference and minimizing internal electromagnetic reflections. This validation process relies on three critical chamber tests: CISPR 16-1-4 NSA validates low-frequency emissions (30 MHz–1 GHz), CISPR 16-1-4 sVSWR validates high-frequency emissions (above 1 GHz), IEC 61000-4-3 Field Uniformity (FU) validates electric field quality for immunity testing. The talk will then focus on S.P.A.C.E. (Simulation Program for Anechoic Chamber Evaluation), a Python based add-on to the state-of-art EM computational software package CST Studio Suite that allows the generation of a Digital Twin of EMC chambers and the emulation of the three EMC validation tests mentioned.

Luca Lalli, born in Rome, Italy, received his M.Sc. Degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Rome La Sapienza in 2025. While writing his Master’s thesis, Luca worked at Medlogix S.r.l. as a Technical Office Engineer, where he was deeply involved in the R&D workflow, focusing on the design, simulation, and experimental testing of antennas for hyperthermia cancer therapy. This role gave Luca hands-on experience in electromagnetic modeling and hardware validation.
Driven by a strong interest in radiofrequency and advanced electromagnetic applications, Luca subsequently joined Microwave Vision Italy. For the past six months, he has been working as an Antenna Engineer at the company's Pomezia facility. In this role, Luca designs and tests advanced antennas in a world-leading electromagnetic measurement environment. His research interests include antenna design and measurement techniques.
