What's on the horizon for e-Learning?

Whether you're a frequent SIMULIA Learning Community visitor or this is your first time stopping by - you're sure to see the e-Learning section on the SLC home page.  This particular section is loaded with in-depth instruction on various topics and so we thought it would be good to introduce you to the person behind the creation and deployment of this highly valuable content. That would be Lori Bonynge! Lori is a SIMULIA expert user and trainer. She writes the training notes, creates examples and trains customers onsite in addition to creating all of the e-Learning posts! Below is a brief interview with Lori to learn more about her plans for e-Learning...

Does e-Learning replace training?

The e-Learning in the SIMULIA Learning Community is designed to complement the live SIMULIA training that we offer in the classroom and online.  SIMULIA live training provides full and deep coverage of relatively general topics (see our training schedule); they provide attendees with the opportunity to focus on learning from a SIMULIA expert for the duration of the class.   In contrast the e-learning posts are short, very focused, searchable, and available whenever you need them.  I think of the e-learning posts as a “job aid” type complement to our live classes.

How can users contribute to and expand upon e-Learning?

There are a couple of ways users can contribute to e-Learning.  For starters, if you have some experience with an e-learning topic, or if you test the topic for the first time and learn something not covered in the e-learning, please comment on the post and share your experience with the community.    If you are an expert in a particular topic that is not yet covered in the e-learning, then I encourage you to create a new post to share your knowledge with the community.  Becoming an author in the SIMULIA Learning community is easy; simply go to the Blog tab and click the “Become an author” button:

For the rest of 2013 you will continue to see a variety of e-learning on both Abaqus and V6 simulation topics.  Some of these topics will be on new features, while others (the Abaqus posts in particular) will highlight useful features that have been available for years.  So when you visit the SIMULIA Learning Community to get the latest SIMULIA news, be sure to take a look at the posts marked as **NEW** in the SIMULIA Learning Resources index.
