How to: Design a mobile phone antenna

This video series takes you through the process of designing a mobile phone antenna using the Electromagnetic Analyst role.

Selecting an antenna in Antenna Magus

The first step is to choose an appropriate antenna type for the device at hand. Antenna Magus enables you to use keywords to filter on a database of antennas in order to find appropriate antennas easily. These database entries contain, besides specific information for the respective antenna, also models that are fully parametrized. Antenna Magus can also estimate the performance of the selected antenna, and, depending on the model, perform parameter studies.

3D electromagnetic simulation in CST Studio Suite

Once the candidate or most promising antenna is selected, it can be exported to CST Studio Suite for full 3D electromagnetic analysis. The Antenna Magus models are ready to run in CST Studio Suite. The project and results can be stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for collaboration.

Creating and distributing an encrypted model

The model is prepared for further usage. It can be encrypted to protect your IP, if the component is used by a third party in their products. The encrypted antenna can be simulated in other projects, however the geometry and other properties stay hidden. Again the encrypted model can be stored on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Using the antenna model in a mobile phone model

Preparing the smartphone model

First of all the model of a smartphone is imported and prepared for simulation.

Placing the Antenna in the smartphone model

In this video we show how the encrypted antenna model is finally placed in the imported smart phone model. Ready to go!
