Abstract:
A brief outline of the arguments for learning to script Abaqus with Python - emphasis on quality, repeatability and speed of both pre- and post-processing operations. When to use scripting and when not to. Some examples of script projects to hopefully inspire the audience to try for themselves. Starting with the very simple that represent an hour or two of coding to save a few minutes on regular jobs, all the way up to a complete workflow where the whole installation design and reporting process is done within Abaqus, reducing the design and reporting time from weeks to minutes.

Guy Rushton Manager Design Services - Hitachi Rail Dr Guy Rushton - PhD University of Cambridge 2003 on leakage flows in shrouded high-pressure gas turbines. Two years with Dyson in blue skies R&D followed by eight years with Schlumberger Oilfield services developing a variety of innovative drilling tool technology. Joined a startup called Perpetuum in 2014. They were building a vibration powered sensor to provide remote condition monitoring for equipment on train bogies. Guy managed the mechanical engineering team to both develop new products and design custom installations of the sensor equipment. Perpetuum was acquired by Hitachi Rail in 2021. |
