ELT Group: A Novel Approach for a Polarizer Simulation with Thin Panel Feature | EuroMed Conference | RUM 2024

Abstract:

This presentation provides a new simulation method based on the “thin panel” feature, having the purpose of reducing the time and the computational burden of a model consisting of a Horn antenna equipped with a polarizer, compared to full wave simulation.
The case study concerns one of the twelve Horn antennas constituting a circular array, which aims to perform a DOA estimation of the received signals in the working band (7:1). 
The polarizer used is a PV to Slant 45 type; however, the simulation of the overall model can lead to an increase in the model mesh so, to be able to decrease the computational burden, the “thin panel” feature was considered.
The workflow involves the simulation of single-unit cells that make up the five levels of the polarizer structure. Then, the related scattering matrices have been extracted to characterize the behavior of the periodic polarizer structure. 
Finally, the overall Horn structure with polarizer was resimulated with the help of the “thin panel” feature.
The article highlights the effectiveness of time reduction due to using the “thin panel” feature.

 

About the Speaker:

Luigi Massimo Auriemma, born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, received a M.Sc. in ICT Engineering (summa cum laude) from Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy, in 2020.
In 2020, Luigi completed his master's thesis project on EBG materials.
Since October 2023, Luigi has been an Antenna Engineer in the Antennas & RF Units Department at Elettronica S.p.A., Rome, Italy. His main research interests are in novel solutions for UWB antennas, antenna arrays, microwave components, polarizers and radomes.
