e-Learning: SIMULIA 3DEXPERIENCE 2014x Physics Apps Tutorials - Home

A SIMULIA e-Learning Resource

Created using 3DEXPERIENCE 2014x

Hello everyone!

This series of tutorials will teach you how to set up a simulation using the Physics apps in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. We will be considering an example of a lap joint assembly to demonstrate different features in the Physics apps.

Problem Statement

This is a simulation of the shearing of a lap joint. The model consists of two overlapping aluminum plates that are connected with a titanium rivet. The left end of the bottom plate is fixed, and the force is applied to the right end of the top plate to shear the joint. Because of symmetry, only half of the joint is modeled to reduce computational cost. Frictional contact is assumed.

Objectives

\\When you complete the tutorial series, you will be able to

  • Navigate between different apps to create an FEA model.
  • Create a simple simulation and submit it for analysis.
  • View the analysis results.

Note: Instructions on how to create geometry and assemblies in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform will not be provided. The following list of tutorials will explain the various steps involved in creating a simulation using the Physics apps.

A summary of the problem statement and the objectives are also available as a narrated video.

Associated Files

Below is a table that provides you with a link to watch the tutorial and download step by step instructions to help you do the tutorials by yourself. In addition, you will be provided a starter 3DXML containing only the geometry of the lap joint assembly and a completed 3DXML that contains analysis results.

Important

By default, when you create a PLM object, an internally generated title will be assigned to it and you will navigate to the default workbench that is associated with the PLM object.

For instance, when you create a 3D part, a title (say, Product1349) will be assigned and you will navigate you to the Part Design workbench.

The following instructions will allow you to set the properties for all PLM objects at the beginning.

1. From the main menu, select Add > Content

2. In the New dialog box,

  • Right-click the Tools icon.
  • Select the Set attributes at creation for all types option.

3. Now, when you create a 3DPart after activating this option, you will see the following dialog box which will allow you to enter the title of the 3DPart and the 3DShape representation at the time of creation.
