Snippet from the Preface in the Textbook:
This work introduces the displacement-based finite element method for linear elastic structural analysis and design. FEM is a numerical method that yields approximate solutions to boundary value problems. Its theoretical foundations and procedures are presented in the context of solid and structural mechanics in 11 Chapters constituting Part I. Solution to analysis and design problems using high-end industrial finite element software is illustrated in a collection of Tutorials constituting Part II. There are 11 Tutorials in Part II, keyed to the 11 Chapters in Part I. Part III is composed of 11 Problem Set exercises covering Parts I & II. Each Problem Set is in turn composed of a number of problem/solutions that are rendered in a Mathematica notebook pdf and suitable for study. They total 175 problem/solutions constituting Part III.
The software of choice for the Tutorials is the Learning Edition of Abaqus/CAE. Abaqus Learning Edition, which contains all the functionality of the Teaching Edition, is available to educators, students and researchers alike as a free download. Accordingly, the aim is to prepare students for speedy entry into the engineering workplace and practice of structural design and analysis. An “FEM bridge” spanning traditional curriculum is posited – introducing both intermediate and advanced concepts within the framework of FEM.
The.zip files for Parts I, II and III and II are available for download. These are all PDF files zipped together.
