CST Simulation Environment for a Fully Railway Antenna Analysis | EuroMed RUM 2021

RUM2021 RUM2021-EuroMed Electromagnetics Studio Suite Polomarconi CustomerPresentation

We were proud to announce Fabrizio QUATTRINI DE SIENA from Polomarconi as a speaker at the EuroMed RUM 2021, where he held a presentation titled "CST Simulation Environment for a Fully Railway Antenna Analysis ".

His presentation described how CST Simulation Environment can provide complete tools and features to perform a full analysis for antennas used in the same application, like railway communication. For this special kind of application, onboard antennas and rooftop antennas have different characteristics and need a different approach to simulate. The on-board antenna is usually a standard broadband MIMO antenna for indoor application, where the main issue from a design point of view, apart from the Environmental standard required for railway application, is to save time during the development and prototype phase. At this scope a robust EM simulation that could provide reliable results, for VSWR, Isolation, and radiation pattern, is fundamental. Regarding rooftop antennas, there are different issues to be solved. For sure, time-saving is a common issue with on-board antennas for VSWR and Isolation results, but a new approach in the railway application is to evaluate antenna radiation patterns in its real environment. Simulate an antenna with a real train rooftop could be really expensive using the standard approach but the new hybrid solver represents the best compromise (in time and solution reliability) to solve this kind of issue.

Fabrizio QUATTRINI DE SIENA, originally from the South of Italy, studied to become a Telecommunication Engineer at the University of Siena, in Tuscany. During this time, he moved to the metropolitan area of Milan, where he still lives today with his wife, three cats and a puppy dog.

Working for various companies with a strong innovative approach and R&D culture, Fabrizio has now almost 20 years of experience, not only in the field of antenna design in various application areas, such as TV & Radio broadcasting, cellular, automotive and railway, and in-building antennas but as well in radio frequency applications. During his time working abroad, he learned about a different culture, enriching both his personal as well as professional perspective of life.

Since 2019 he works as an R&D Antenna Manager at Polomarconi.it, an Italian company that designs and produces RF components for different telecommunication applications.
