Abstract:
In filter design, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Most of the desirable properties of MW filters, such as IL, selectivity, volume and weight, high peak power handling and PIM are not independently assignable even with the most advanced design techniques. Compromises must occur, and the designer must navigate a network of tradeoffs by making the right choices. In this framework lays the compromise between IL and selectivity, which drives the choice of filter technology. However, even for a given filter technology, size and stop-band rejection, there are still degrees of freedom in placing reflection zeros, determining the filter’s response and affecting peak power handling, dissipated power distribution and sensitivity. Depending on the application, the designer might then choose to favor one or the other aspects by tailoring the frequency response of the filter to reflect zero patterns. In this presentation we will discuss how CST studio can be used to drive the designer through the various steps of this task, showing not only how to match the desired response but also how to evaluate and compare the performances that directly depend on it.
About the Speaker:
Matteo Cendamo received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Telecommunication Engineering with a specialization in Radio Frequency and Microwave from Politecnico di Milano. He is also licensed as a Professional Engineer.
Matto started to use CST Studio Suite, and electromagnetic simulation software in his previous work experience as a Ground Segment Engineer designing antennas and feeds for satellite communication systems.
Matteo has been with the CommScope Research and Development department for about five years, where he is in charge of the design of filters, multiplexers, TMAs, and, in general, passive devices operating in the RF/Microwave range.
Matteo is valued as member of the SIMULIA Champions program, which he joined in 2023.
