This Abaqus Benchmark Manual section is titled "Simple tests on a crushable foam specimen", and it describes the calibration of the crushable foam material model for the material Dytherm 2.5
https://www.dyplastcomposites.com/
The 2.5 refers to the 2.5 lb./ft³ density Dytherm foam. A commonly used phenolic mechanical insulation foam. Here is a Dyplast Products Corporate Presentation, "Leading the Industry in Mechanical Insulation".
The crushable foam model is calibrated for the Dytherm 2.5 foam for which we have only hydrostatic compression and uniaxial compression data at slow (static) strain rates. The test data has been scanned from the Abaqus Benchmark Manual and provided here in an Excel file:
The crushable foam, volumetric hardening model defined in the Benchmark Manual is here:
Typing these parameters into the 3DX calibration app shows a similar match to the test data, similar to Figure 3.2.7–1 and Figure 3.2.7–2 from the Benchmark Manual
The figure above was created with the 2020x FD02 version of the calibration app.
3D Experience Calibration App
The video below shows how to use our 3D Experience calibration app to calibrate the hyperfoam material model using this Benchmark 3.2.7 test data. The crushable foam functionality shown was delivered in the on-premise 2020X FD02, aka FP2014, release.
