Accelerate Innovation using the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

At Dassault Systemes innovation is our mantra and we are continuously developing state-of-the-art simulation technologies to help our customers create innovative products and solutions for their customers. Let us take a quick look at some of the most recently developed tools.

Meshing and Modeling Tools

It has always been a time-consuming task to build a complete simulation-ready finite element model, whether it is for a large aircraft or for an automobile or for a large excavator. It involves modeling with multiple levels of assemblies starting all the way from a full system model to sub-assemblies to component level assemblies to individual components. Such a model could easily have thousands of connections to create and manage.  Also, nobody wants to build these models manually as these tasks are non-value added tasks for the analysts. That is why we are focusing on building automated meshing tools in a collaborative platform to minimize the time required for building such a complex, multilevel finite element model. Some of the available tools are listed below.

  • Collaborative modeling
    • Dashborad
    • Automated Modeling
      • Multiscale modeling
      • Rules Based Meshing
      • Users procedures with mid-surface extraction
      • Modeling and managing connections
        • Spot welds
        • Compatible seam welds

Engineering Template

Normally, design change occurs several times in a product design cycle. Each time the design is modified, the simulation needs to be repeated on the new design. Don’t you think it would be good if you could reuse the simulation that you built on the previous design?

The Engineering Template feature does exactly that. In the figure shown on the right, structural analysis was carried out on a particular design shown on the left side of the figure. The meshing rules, pressure loads, contact definitions, boundary conditions, step definitions were all applied through publications. In the new design, the same publication names are used. The meshes, loads, BCs are all transferred from the old design to the new design automatically using the Engineering Template capability.

Multiscale Systems Simulations

Systems simulations have become an important part of the product development process as the products are becoming much more diversified. For example, most of the cars available on the market currently have roughly 40% electrical and electronics parts. Systems simulations ensure that whole systems work reliably and are also needed to produce superior quality and safer products. However, systems simulations are cumbersome to construct and execute as they involve multiple solvers. To address these issues, we have developed a web-based application know as Experiment Creation App. This app allows the users to build and execute a co-simulation and visualize results easily.

High Performance Results Visualizations

Large finite element and CFD models have become very common now-a-days. Post-processing these large models with hundreds of frames is very time-consuming. There is a need for a state-of-the-art post processing tool for handling large results files. To address these needs, we developed an application know as Physics Results Explorer available on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Underlying technology allows the usage of multiple cores and a separate hardware for carrying out all the computations required for fast animations and displaying contour plots. This app also allows collaborative and remote visualizations.
