Abaqus/Standard Built-in User Subroutines for LaRC05 Composite Failure Criteria

Note: Beginning in version 2020 of Abaqus, the LaRC05 criteria was added to *Damage Initiation.

In Abaqus/Standard 2017 a new composites failure criteria was implemented as a "built-in" user subroutine.  This composites failure criteria was originally developed at the NASA Langley Research Center (thus the name LaRC).  The LaRC composites failure model has been evolving over more than a decade, and has taken names such as LaRC03, LaRC04, and LaRC05 (see papers listed below for more information).  A team lead by Professor Silvestre Pinho, Imperial College London, used the LaRC05 failure criteria in the WWFE-II exercise, and that work is summarized in the last two papers shown below.

The implementation in Abaqus/Standard 2017 is in two forms:

UVARM -A damage criteria evaluation via a built-in UVARM subroutine

UDMGINI - A damage initiation criteria for XFEM enriched elements via a built-in UDMGINI subroutine.
