Abstract
Virtual testing by computer simulation is still not extensively used within the medical devices industry. While its value has been recognized, there is often a lack of experience and expertise to fully benefit from the possibilities of virtual testing. Simulation and design usually live in disconnected silos, leading to long lead times and inefficient processes for repetitive simulation problems. Too often, design engineers run out of time and budget before running out of design ideas.
A method is proposed to make standardized, high-fidelity simulation workflows available to device designers through an easy-to-use virtual test lab.
Built on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the democratized simulation workflows allow design engineers to quickly explore and verify their ideas upfront for better products. Simulation specialists provide expertise captured in those workflows and can easily ensure compliant execution by non-experts.
Through the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the virtual test data can further be connected to the product record management and feed into regulatory processes like ASME V&V40.
