@MODSIM - Online Interactive Experiences

Dear MODSIM enthusiasts,

Aside form all the great content and replays available on the community, we also wanted to share some online interactive experiences with you, illustrating some examples of how our game-changing technology from CATIA, SOLIDWORKS and SIMULIA can bring managers and leaders to design and innovate the next generation of products – together – on one business platform.

So explore and enjoy !

Wireless Network Design for the Connected Factory

5G will be a key part of the industry digitalization process for many industries.

This is about Wireless Network Design for the Connected Factory - People, equipment and vehicle …in a complex and dynamic environment

How can I plan for adequate network coverage in the factory?

When designing a private 5G network, electromagnetic simulation can tremendously help.

This experience showcases a model that constructed with our DELMIA tools directly on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. We’ll be looking at Looking at multiple base station points and see that we get quite different results, depending on where the WAP is.

Bleu Car Design Alternatives - Integrated analysis of geometry changes and performance and Simulation-based design guidance.

This interactive demonstration illustrates how we can explore the impact of design changes on performance, and how with 3DEXPERIENCE manufacturers can acquire intuitive design guidance to achieve both engineering performance targets and design requirements.

A Bleu Car parametric model created In CATIA Imagine and shape is used to generate design alternatives (3D models with different shapes) that are fed to PowerFLOW / DesignGUIDE for drag coefficient computations and design space exploration.

Thermal management during fast charging of an electric truck

One of the constraints with electric vehicles is the temperature control of the main components in the electric system. Thermal control is necessary for efficiency, security, reliability and longevity of the system. For example, during the charging process, the temperature of the charger must be maintained within a given range. When the temperature exceeds the upper limit, the charging becomes less efficient leading to a further heating of the charger itself that can lead to the deterioration of the unit or its failure.

Proper cooling must be incorporated in the charging system to control the operating temperature. The demo shows an electric truck hooked up to a charging station. During the fast charging process, heat is removed from the charger located underneath the truck by a cooling circuit running through a radiator located behind the front grilles. The cooling efficiency is strongly reduced when hot air recirculates to the front opening of the radiator.

The first model shows recirculating air present on the right side of the truck. Flow analysis shows the recirculating paths. Panels are introduced around and below the radiator to reduce air recirculation and improve the cooling performance. The second simulation shows the improved design.

Sustainability Metal Building Thermal Comfort

The buildings sector accounts for about 76% of electricity use and 40% of all U. S. primary energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions, making it essential to reduce energy consumption in buildings in order to meet energy and environmental challenges.

The major areas of energy consumption in buildings are heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Simulation will be critical to achieve building efficiency, focusing on improving the performance of a complex system designed to provide occupants with a comfortable, safe, and attractive living and work environment.

This study was made using PowerFlow and Dymola, and focuses on the Metal Building in Velizy. The transient 3D CFD results are coupled to the system representation of the HVAC, to predict time varying comfort, and energy consumption, over a full day. The results available online show :

  • The thermal distribution inside the office room as a whole, and under the vents.
  • The local changes in temperature with sun movement - in the east side of the office the temperature will be higher in the morning due to sun positioned there. As the sun moves to the other side, temperatures in the east side decrease under reduced solar load, whilst west side increases.

This data is further leveraged to improve the integration and control of the HVAC within the building, or alter the building envelope, to improve energy efficiency whilst maintaining comfort. The same simulation methodology also provides information about the resulting quality of the air in the building, allowing simulation users to balance comfort, energy efficiency, and air quality.
