- Open up the string file in Surpac.
- Save the file as .str and make sure you have selected the text option
- File>import>data from many files(string)
- Select the file that is to be colored by RL
NOTE: The field you want to colour the file on is the RL. This is in column 4. So the string number is column 4.
- Open up the resultant file. You will notice the strings are all yellow
- Go to the string styles. This can be accessed via the legends tab, or display>display properties>strings and points or Customise>display properties>strings and points.
- Open up the styles file. We need to adjust the range for the strings to cover the range of the RL/string number. In this example the string numbers are 900 up to 1100.
- Change the 99 to the number of places in the RL. So for the above example they all need changing to 9999.
- At the line after 18, right click and insert a line. Add 19,999,10
- Tick the box to save the styles file and put in a new name, then save the string file. It is important that you re-save the file, else the styles file will not be associated with this string file.
- You will see the string colours will change.
