๐Ÿ“‘ GEMS 6.8.7 Tip - Marker mixing

โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

Marker mixing is an alternative concept to the mixing engine for cave flow modelling. It is also a supplement to VMIX, Template Mix and CA3. The previous and existing mixing template is not suitable for very large projects as it canย operate slowly. With marker mixing, it is now much faster to mix markers than bits of material with hundreds of material attributes. This is now available for PCBC and PCSLC.ย

Benefits of marker mixing

  • Graphical display of markers
  • Substantial performance improvement
  • More robust. The algorithm is far simpler, so less prone to bugs in the flow logic
  • Run in Scheduler or in stand-alone or batch mode
  • Ability to model multi-lift scenarios. (Not possible with template mixing)
  • Ability to directly track the source of materials
  • Ability to save markers as extracted for re-evaluation
  • Can the evaluate many slice files vs one single extraction file
  • MMIX method in scheduler to quickly move through past periods
  • Provides an alternate flow model to users
  • Improved capability to integrate with Insight

New Features

General:

  • Easy switch from Template Mixing to Marker Mixing
  • Realistic visualization of marker movements
  • Fast performance. (10 to 100 X faster than the full cellular automation approach)
  • Accessible from Batch Automation
  • Variable external material
  • Integrated Residual Model update option
  • Marker tracking
  • Shut-off grade option
  • Reporting using Block model attributes directly
  • Best Features of both Template Mixing and Cellular Automata

PCBC:

  • 4 Modes to run (Scheduler, stand-alone or Batch or Evaluate)
  • Excel inputs separate from Scheduler (or same)
  • Bucket sheet input
  • Graphical display of markers
  • Option to evaluate multiple Slice files from a single run
  • Multi-Lift support

PCSLC:

  • Customized specifically for SLC depletion (Very similar to TM3D to run)
  • Integrates features from both TM3D and Cellular Automaton concepts
  • Simulated marker positioning within each ring using integration points from VOLS tool
  • Fines migration component (not in TM3D)
  • Positional set up of frozen material based on draw cone definition
  • Cone/ring erosion mechanism
  • Mixing options available:
    • Frozen and Erosion
    • Fines migration
    • Clean rilling and toppling
    • Variable cave back and variable cave back thickness
    • Variable marker size (but flow not dependent on this)
    • External material support
    • More controls on Vertical mixing
    • Input Fines via Grade element, not external model
    • Improved PSTQ reporting (by origin and by destination)
    • Cone radius option for more precise position depletion of rings below HIZ
    • Good rilling/toppling behaviour in block rings and reasonable behaviour in regular rings (for rilling etc)
