Summary: Dassault Systèmes has used all the learnings from GEOVIA Whittle and paired it with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to introduce new roles. The new Strategic Mine Planner and Pit Optimizer roles represent a major innovation in strategic mine planning capabilities. These roles elevate planning to a new level through advanced integration with mine design and cutting-edge optimization.
The roles focus on maximizing value while ensuring safety, environmental stewardship, streamlined processes, and transparency.
This is enabled by managing all data sources in a unified platform, encouraging collaboration across teams, and utilizing powerful optimization techniques backed on a new implementation and extension of the Bienstock-Zuckerberg algorithm. The solution resolves strategic scenarios in just a few minutes while provides increased net present value, opening up the possibility to analyze options like never before.
Strategic scenarios can now be rapidly optimized in minutes while accounting for technical, economic, operational and environmental constraints. Environmental variables can be directly modeled to generate sustainable mine plans. Sensitivity analysis tools provide comprehensive evaluations of plan robustness.
In addition, the Strategic Mine Planner integrates tightly with the Surface Mine Designer role. This connects the optimized pit phases directly to parametric mine designs, reducing the time to align designs with optimized plans. It facilitates a seamless synchronization between optimization and design for more realistic schedules.
Overall, this 3DEXPERIENCE integration transforms mine planning into a collaborative, integrated process with advanced optimization capabilities and direct connectivity to detailed mine design - ushering in a new era of strategic mine planning excellence.

Meet the Presenter:
Gustavo PILGER - Worldwide GEOVIA R&D Strategy & Management Director - Dassault Systèmes
Gustavo Pilger is a CTO/Technology and R&D Director/Mining Engineer/Geostatistician with over 20+ years’ experience in the global mining industry and with a strong background in mineral resource modelling and uncertainty analysis, holding a PhD and a MSc degree in geostatistics and a Specialisation degree in Mining Geostatistics from the Paris School of Mines. He has worked for large mining corporations and consulting organisations, where he worked with a vast range of commodities located in several parts of the globe in collaboration with multidisciplinary groups. Gustavo has experience in all aspects of Technology Development for the mining industry having managed the Resource Assessment R&D group at BHP.
As WW R&D Director of Dassault Systèmes GEOVIA, Gustavo is responsible for the global GEOVIA R&D organisation (130+ people) which purpose is to provide software solutions for the Energy & Materials Industry, and in particular for its Mining sub segment. He provides strategic views to define the "Virtual Planet" Technology Vision for modelling and simulating the planet. With leadership teams across Dassault Systèmes, Gustavo contributes to defining transformational technologies to enable companies to overcome their challenges, improving predictability, efficiency, safety and sustainability while maximizing shareholder value.
