You may recall where Naim DALAL posted a Tips and Tricks on the topic of “Transitions”. In brief, this functionality allows you to move from one application to another without having to open a new application and then dragging your product into it to access it’s specific functionality. A number of transitions are currently available as illustrated below.
The system selects the widget to switch from if one of the following is true:
- has focus on your tab on the dashboard
- is unpinned or “floating’ on the dashboard
- is maximized or displayed full screen on your dashboard
This capability exists for bi-directional transitions across the dashboard applications illustrated below.Transitioning extends beyond the dashboard such that a user can be working in virtually any dashboard application with a selected product and launch a native application to open a product in session. This is an evolving area of the system so the behavior below may not be complete across all the native applications we currently support. Today, all of the mechanical file-based CAD apps can open, via their specific connector, the selected product into session if the CAD master to the product is the same as the native client app. For example, NX opens NX product, SOLIDWORKS opens SOLIDWORKS product, etc. Subsequently the following collaborative work environment is fully supported across all CADs working on a hybrid structure managed on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA have that added benefit of opening their own native structures plus representations of the other solution in context for a truly collaborative environment for hybrid structures. Our plan is to continue to extend this capability for all the other CAD solutions such that anyone who opens the structure above could open the entire structure in their session but only edit parts/assemblies/drawing native to their specific CAD application.
