Working with Find in the Product Structure Editor

One of the many advantages of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is its’ ability to search for information. 3D Search gives you the ability to search for any data in the platform without context. Once you are working within a design context within the Product Structure Editor, a more specific search tool called Find is available to help you find specific components within a design structure. This command is accessible from multiple places within the app.

Let’s take a quick look at where you can use this command in the Product Structure Editor in the following video...

The Find command is customized by the Options pull-down within the prompt.

  • Navigate between rows instead of keywords reduces the number of returned results, by ignoring multiple string matches that are found within the search attributes of a particular component.
  • Auto-select the current matching result is useful and saves mouse-clicks if your search criteria is very specific as it automatically selects the first component in the tree that matches the search criteria.
  • The pulldown menu of attributes allows you to set the scope of attributes that are used during the query:

There is a number of cases where the names of entities within the product structure share whole or parts of a string, commonly seen in the Title attributes. The last two options within the command help reduce the duplicity of matches found by eliminating certain object types from the search.
