The ability to organize users into groups was introduced in R2019x to improve user, license, and access management. You can now easily manage groups of users that are similar, for example an engineering department, a small design group or a project team.
What is a User Group?
A User Group is simply a collection of 3DEXPERIENCE users.
A user can be a member of many User Groups.
User Groups can be assigned security contexts. The members of the User Group are granted these security contexts.
What is the purpose of a User Group?
User Groups enable easy and efficient collaboration with multiple users by treating them as a single entity instead of having to collaborate with each user individually.
User Groups improve access control deployment by allowing licenses and security contexts to be assigned to User Groups in addition to individual users.
User Groups can be invited to 3DSwym communities.
User Groups can be invited to Collaborative Spaces in 3DSpace.
Compass roles can be assigned to User Groups.
Data can be shared with User Groups.
3DDashboards can be shared with User Groups.
Tasks, issues, and routes can be assigned to User Groups.
Access privileges to content can be granted to User Groups.
How do you create and manage a User Group?
User Groups are managed at the platform level and are leveraged by platform services.
The User Groups app in the Social and Collaborative Apps (North) quadrant of the Compass allows you to create and manage User Groups on the cloud.
For on-premise environments, User Groups are created and managed with the VPLMPosImport tool.
All users can see all User Groups.
Database Objects for User Groups
The administrative object for a User Group is a role with isaprojectgroup = true.
The Business Object for a User Group is of type Group governed with the Group Proxy policy.
