💬 Q&A
Q U E S T I O N | A N S W E R |
1. Are Raw Materials only applied in the web client? Or can I apply the raw material to my product through the native client as well? | It is planned to be integrated both in CATIA and at DELMIA Native Apps. |
2. If I have a raw material, and I want to define a specific geometry for its usage within a component/assembly (say, a dispensed bead of adhesive), how would I structure that raw material and the 3D representation of that dispensed geometry? | You need to create a Part: the geometry will be hold by the 3DShape. Then you create a link between this Part and the Raw Material from the app "Engineering Release" (XEN) |
3. Is a special license/app required to get access to the Manufactured Equivalent Item? | Yes, you need the following licenses in order to have access to the Manufacturer Equivalent Items (or MEI): Specification Manager (XSR) , Component Request Engineer (XCR) or Supplier Item Manager (XSP). MEI creation is only possible using Supplier Item Manager (XSP). |
4. Can raw materials be made from other raw materials? | No Raw Materials cannot be made from other raw materials - they are considered terminal items. |
| 5. How does the material selection in web combine with CAD material domains? | The Core and Covering Materials displayed in the "Material" tab of Engineering Release web App are the same as the ones displayed in SIMULIA Material Definition native App. But you can only display and manage Domains (Simulation, Appearance, Drafting) from SIMULIA 3DEXPERIENCE Material Definition native App. |
6. If I have a 3D Part with a core material applied, can I use that applied core material to refine the list of raw materials to be "made from" to only show raw materials with the same core material? | As of the current release this capability is not available. |
7. Can the application of Raw Materials be accomplished in the Native Client? | Currently some of the CATIA apps allow usage of Raw Material in the 3D with the 'made from' usage. |
8. I see you can specify a material quantity, on a part in Engineering, is this to be considered as a forecasted quantity early in the process? | You have the capability either to specify the raw material from which a part of the engineering definition is made from or to specify a direct quantity of raw material to instantiate in this engineering definition. In the first case, as there is a geometry, the quantity could be surely refined during the process. |
9. Is there a way to capture Material Mass Properties? | This not possible today the way you describe the process. The "Mass" type of dimension contains a predefined set of units which is not related to the part type (2D, 3D etc.). |
10. In Engineering Release, If I filter the product to a configuration or model version, does the quantity roll up adjust? | Yes, the roll up quantity is resolved according to the current state of the structure, included configuration or model version criteria. |
11. For QTY representation as Area, are there plans to capture LxW as an instance attribute to populate a calculated area for QTY? | No plan today as I didn't have such a request for the moment. |
12. As SOLIDWORKS users that want to add material to a product structure with a UOM like you've shown, do they need more than just XSR? Do they need a CATIA or SIMULIA role for creating the raw material? | The creation of Raw Material is available only in the role "Specification Manager (XSR)". The usage of Raw Materials in other apps does not require this role to be granted to the user. |
13. In the example there was Raw Material STEEL-600 created and it is defined as area. How do we define a raw material which have several dimensions? For example a pipe which is defined with length and thickness? | Today this is not possible. |
| 14. can you explain the difference between raw material "consumed" or used as "made from"? | Raw Material that is "consumed" is the raw material that you need in order to manufacture the product, for example: oil, glue, etc. This material is not part of the physical product structure. The Raw Material that the part is "Made Of" is the raw material of the part itself: if the part is made of plastic, then its raw material will be "plastic". If the part is made of iron, then the raw material will be "iron." |
| 15. Does this information roll up to Material Compliance Analyst {RoHMS} capabilities? How does this functionality help? | The integration with Material Compliance Analyst is not planned yet. |
| 16. Raw material made from does not impact Simulation right? | Not true. If you specify a raw material from which you part is made from and if this raw material is made of a core material, then the part will be made of this core material. And this core material will be used by simulation. |
| 17. Where to set the density for a specific Material? Density is important to compute the weight of the product... | The density should be set by using SIMULIA Material Definition Native App. |
| 18. Will Core Material be created by SolidWorks as well in the future? | It is not planned. |
