With the current trend of ever-shrinking design cycles, verification of electronic component accuracy is a critical part of the printed circuit board design process and is something that needs to be considered every time a component is instantiated into a design. As electronics are increasingly being incorporated in products across a number of industries, designers are under immense pressure to complete projects quickly. They are often left with little time for the verification process, which can result in the production of inaccurate components and costly re-designs, especially if issues are discovered late in the design and development process.
ENOVIA's Collaborative Designer for Altium offers designers the ability to perform design rule verification on electronic components developed for Altium Designer. Rule checking is available in the Electronic Component Editor so that components can be verified before they are saved into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Component rule checking verifies the integrity of the component (e.g. pin mapping between the footprint and schematic component), the symbol (e.g. consistency of the pin list between alternate view modes) and the footprint (e.g. pads that are shorted with a copper connection, in the example below).
The component rule checking is configurable so that the user can define the severity level reporting for each of the possible violations that can exist on a component. These reporting levels include:
- All Off - set the Report Mode for all violation types to No Report
- All Warning - all violation types are set to Warning
- All Error - all violation types are set to Error
- All Fatal - violation types are set to Fatal Error
