Product Structure display options in Product Release Engineer

Using the widget “Engineering Release” of the “Product Release Engineer” role, you can display the product structure in various ways according to your needs:

These views enable you to display the list of products under the root product in a way that fits your needs. Needs could vary from one user to another:

For example, Product Engineers might be interested in working on a specific level of the product structure, in other cases they might want to analyze components that need to be procured from certain suppliers.

Whatever the need is, these views can help you reduce the structure complexity and get to relevant products in the structure, through a few main steps:

  • Apply the relevant view using one of the mentioned above options
  • Apply a filter through the tagger (6Wtags)
  • Filter the structure based on a value of a specific column (new in R2022x FD03)

Product Structure

This view displays the products available in the immediate level under the root product.

This is the default view that enables you to focus on the content of this level, and navigate further as needed:

Navigate the structure as needed:

Product Structure (Flat) (New in R2022x FD03)

This view displays, as a flat list, all products of the root regardless of their level within the structure.

The columns “Level” displays where the product is available within the structure.

The column “Occurrence” displays where the instance is “used” within the structure: it shows the full path from the instance up until the root product

Product Leaves

This view displays, as a flat list, all products that are:

  • leaf products (products that have no children)
  • defined as “Terminal Items” (based on an attribute defined in the widget preferences)

Product Made From

this view displays, as a flat list, all products that are:

  • Leaf products (have no children)
  • Defined as “Terminal Items” (based on an attribute defined in the widget preferences)
  • products that describe the consumed Core Materials
  • Raw materials (*)

(*) Raw Materials:

Raw materials are created using the role “Specification Manager (XSR) , and consumed by the Product Release Engineer to define from which materials the product is made of.

This role enables you to reduce launch times and eliminate costly re-authoring errors by utilizing design data directly in specifications.

Note: this role is currently available as a “Controlled Availability” (or CA) on both premise and on cloud

Summary:

To summarize, here is another example that illustrates the way these views:

Example:

The root table is made of several products (A, B, C ...):

The various display options for this root would look like this:
