Manufacturing Intent in “Engineering Release”

R2021x FD02 introduced a new capability in the “Engineering Release” widget that enables release engineers to describe how the organization intends to acquire the Engineering item.

One can either “buy” or “make” the Engineering item in-house.

The release engineer decides upon creation of this relationship, what is the intent of the Manufacturing item (Make or Buy):

  • If “Make,” then the Manufacturing item will be created as “Manufacturing Assembly”
  • If “Buy,” then the Manufacturing item will be as “Provided Part”

A new tab, “Manufacturing Intent,” available from the Engineering item, displays these relationships between Engineering and Manufacturing items:

Note: this new capability does not require a DELMIA role to be granted to the user (such as Manufacturing Item Manager (MFN)).

After establishing this relationship, the release engineer can assign the “plant responsibility” for each Manufacturing item. This will move the ownership for the item into this plant.

A “plant” is represented by both “Collaborative space” and “Organization.”

The following video illustrates these new enhancements, which accelerate the manufacturing definition to be directly established from the engineering definition.
