From Engineering to Manufacturing - Made From

Introduction

The raw materials represent the resource used in making something. As such, raw materials have dimensional properties like length surface, volume and mass, as well as properties coming from the material, that the raw material is made of.

Examples of raw materials:

  • Copper wire 92.9 – 1.5%
  • Steel pipe 35
  • Iron plate 30 X75

In ENOVIA, you create Raw Materials, using the role “Specification Manager (XSR)”.

The engineering uses this definition to describe the raw material that the Engineering Item is Made From.

Note that this definition is only relevant on parts and not assemblies, as assemblies do not have a single raw material.

Total required raw material calculation

In the Engineering Release widget, you can calculate the total raw material that is required for the complete product, using the view “Product Make From”. This view provides the list of all raw materials that the products in this assembly are made from.

This is useful for procurement/sourcing engineers who need to have an idea on the required total quantity for each raw material that is required for the manufacturing process of the assembly.

The following video illustrates these concepts in more details.
