Find Number [Component Reference] & 3DEx Product Release Engineer: Option A: Customer S/N BOM Parts List Drawing [Unique No Qty] & Option B: Procurement List of Parts Drawing [with Qty]

"Why do multiple instances of the same subassembly parts not display a different component reference?"

"If SOLIDWORKS® does not treat the subassemblies as solid objects, the parts need to open four times. This increases loading time.

Imagine the complexity if hundreds of subassemblies exist with hundreds of parts. Without this solid objects behavior, the loading time increases substantially."

30:38 Find Number with Table Saw

--------------------------------------------------

The miter saw example looks perfect on the surface.  The flaw in the example is that an assembly like this would be a multi-level assembly. Many parts & sub-assemblies within many parts & sub-assemblies.  This functionality only works for the top-level assembly.

We (and many of our vendors - industrial rotating equipment providers) use (Find Number) in product line assemblies to reference Ballon items found in Part List Drawings attached to Maintenance Manuals that correspond to the customers Serial Numbered Bill of material.  For Example, BOM from Product Release Engineer - Printed in Excel, Serialized and provided to customer as an addendum to their Maintenance Manual.  In this use case we require the Find Number (Component Reference) to be unique forever instance that a Bolt appears in an assembly regardless to how many levels of the BOM.  See Attached Image.  Note:  For us to get the functionality you are presenting our entire pump assembly and its variants, all parts would need to be in the top-level assembly.  This is impractical.  The functionality we are looking for is common for all pump, valve, motor, mechanical seal mfg.'s and more.

Adding a [Component Reference] to E-Drawings would be over the top or a QR on the Serial Plate that brings of 3D model with S/N List of Components.

We would request an option:  A or B

A:  Unique Component Reference for everypart (no Qty)  Used for customer Bill of Materials.

B:  Component Reference (per EIN #) (with Qty).  Used for Procurment for Supplier Parts Ordering Bill of Materials.
